The Donington Shoot

12 November 2011

The Shields family has been holding a shoot on Donington Park since 1926.  Though the estate was
tragically broken up in the 1970s the surrounding woodland and Deer Park still
hosts the pheasant shoot, which takes place between November and January each
year.

Today was the first day of Donington’s 2011/12 season and a
huge success.  A total of 66 brace, or 132 pheasants, were shot;
a record total in recent years.  With a
bag like that it looks like pheasant will be back our menu again very shortly,
continuing our tradition of serving wild home-grown food.  What a treat!
